My Approach
The neurodiversity paradigm is central to my clinical practice. The work and ideas of folks like Nick Walker, PhD, Lila Low-Beinart, LPC, LMHC, among others, have greatly influenced my views and approaches. I push back against the medical model and view neurodivergent people as being inherently whole, not broken, and with that, not needing “fixing.” Some of the most liberating and powerful work to me has been supporting clients in unraveling the internalized messages capitalism and other larger systems have bore into us.
Centering clients’ values and goals, highlighting their strengths, seeing where they truly want support, finding creative options to approach their needs, and most importantly, being a human across from them that they feel seen and understood by, is what I’m about.
To know that someone does not think you are wrong, bad, lazy, etc, and sees you as a complex, differently wired person who needs care, safety, and attuned support, and said person can give that to you, can be life changing.
In some other practical terms, I have a feminist, relational psychodynamic view of my work and incorporate tools from modalities such as DBT and ACT at times, as well. I focus on self-compassion and acceptance, grief and complicated relationship experiences, sensory and executive functioning needs, and overall shifting of our view of self trying to exist in a very challenging world.
